Drawing The Human Body An Anatomical Guide Pdf' title='Drawing The Human Body An Anatomical Guide Pdf' />Actually, Location Sharing in Relationships Is Bad. If youve ever considered sharing your every move with a significant other, you probably have an opinion about location sharing apps. This is great Ill always know where they are is one opinion. This is creepy Im not trying to stalk someone I could easy talk to instead is another. Im of that second opinion. Its not what you think. I dont shy away from always on friend tracking because I enjoy skirting off to odd parts of town, doing secret things. Im just not a fan of the idea that we should turn our smartphones into GPS tracking beacons any more than we need to, especially when doing so makes me avoid talking to my loved ones. On the flip side of things, Im also opposed to the alluring concept of stalking my friends, watching where theyve been and where theyre going. This is creepy, yes. Its also bad. The location sharing feature that lets us spy on our friends isnt necessarily something we asked for. Its something that big tech companies thrust upon us. It appeared thanks to newfangled capabilities in our smartphones and became a feature that some used to soothe their needs and anxieties. We dont know if tracking your loved ones every move is a good thing. Not yet, because the future is still fresh. Study Psychology 251 learning and behavior. Jade H. But I have my doubts. Let me be clear. I celebrate the personal decisions that help you live your best life. Im not here to criticize those. I am here to second guess location sharing apps, fraught with privacy implications and untested interpretations of intimacy, as well as the implications they thrust upon our relationships. Keep that in mind as I invite you to disagree with me. This week, GQpublished a brief essay endorsing the idea of location sharing in relationships. The writer, a fan of tracking her significant other with Find My Friends, alludes to the apps creepy reputation in the first paragraph. Beca Grimm, writing for GQ, claims that watching her boyfriend in real time is convenient and even soothing. We have nothing to hide and dont feel either party abuses the privilege, Grimm says. One of Grimms friends protests the idea of constant location sharing in a way thatin my opinionhighlights the awkward implications of the technology. Says friend Jason, If two people need to keep tabs on one another like this, outside of genuine safety concerns, then maybe they should talk more and rely on technology less. Talking more is a really great ideaWe forge relationships and dedicate ourselves to each other so that we might build a connection that supersedes the notion of interaction as transaction. How To Install Mplayer On Wii Homebrew'>How To Install Mplayer On Wii Homebrew. Becoming close with another person involves trust and understanding. Should that bond require a GPS beacon I dont think so. This new notion of location tracking leaves behind centuries worth of precedent that demands we simply communicate with one another. One human telling another human any detail about their goings on or whereabouts or mood is a valuable exchange. But look at this quote from the GQ essay For my relationship, location sharing simply helps reduce boring ass communication with my partner. When you feel a pocket buzz and see your beloveds name bubble appear, its nice to retain hope the message may hold a saucy photoor at the very least, a sweet noteas opposed to an ETA demand. If youve ever considered sharing your every move with a significant other, you probably have an opinion about locationsharing apps. This is great Ill. Its nice. But those boring bits are important. When I feel my pocket buzz, I just want to read what my beloveds gonna say. I dont need a saucy photo. I just want to imagine hearing their voice, compressed into the pixelated message bubble that Ive come to understand as communication. Would I rather open a map and watch that person slide across the Earth, hopefully shifting ever so slightly towards me Not quite. Theres only so much a blipping dot on a map can tell you. Unlike a GPS powered beacon, a text message or a phone call can say, I love you. It can say, Im angry that youre late. Or it might just say, Ill be there soon. And sometimes, I just want to know those little details, that someone I care about will be here soon, that theyre thinking of me along the way. I love to read them say these boring little things in a stupid little text on my computer phone. These feelings dont come from an uninformed point of view. Ive been in a relationship for over three years, and we actively decided not to use Find My Friends, for all the reasons listed above. We recently revisited this issue of surveilling our loved ones, when we got a puppy and debated whether or not we should install a camera in our apartment to keep track of her. So far, weve decided against it, and I believe the reasoning for that decision is not dissimilar from the reason why weve avoided Find My Friends. It all comes down to trust and control. If youre going to leave a puppy alone in an apartment, you have to trust theyre not going to get into trouble. Sure, were talking about a dog here, but trusting the dog to behave is also trusting yourself not to be anxious about outcomes you cant control. And you cant control everything, as much as you might think you can. After all, having the ability to watch something happen doesnt mean you can stop it from happening. What you think you see on the puppy cam might also be different than whats actually happening in real life. The idea of a smartphone app that turns my relationship into a Pac. Man game is hard for me to handle. To me, location sharing apps like Find My Friends in romantic relationships amounts to embracing the Orwellian inevitability of smartphones. Yes, with GPS enabled devices, we can see where anyone is at any given time. No, this innovation does not amount to progress in terms of how we interact with the people we love most. It actually seems rather destructive, since it discourages you from talking to your partner and potentially misleads you about their activity. Just because your smartphone can do this thing does not mean that your should use your smartphone for this purpose. Like I said from the start, you should use Find My Friends if you think it makes you happy. Good luck with that. Im firmly grounded in the idea of interacting with my friends and loved ones on a human level. That doesnt mean watching a dot roam around a map. It means talking to them and hearing what they have to say. Maybe Im old fashioned for believing in the basics. Maybe Im dull. Im certainly not anxiously cradling my smartphone waiting to see where any given friend will go. That seems creepy as hell. Lvl. 0 The Drawing Website. Cartoon Eye Formulas. Eyes come in all types of shape and sizes. In this section Im going to be talking about a few specific types eyes and what theyre made up of. These eyes will be However before we begin, just as having knowledge of drawing real heads helps your head drawing, having real knowledge of how real eyes work, will help your cartoon eye drawing. Especially the more naturalistic your cartoon characters are. When drawing cartoon eyes, there are four things about realistic eyes to keep in mind Some of these things may seem like common sense, but more often than not, when drawing cartoon eyes, theyre ignored. This makes eyes look a bit odd. Lets quickly take a look at why these things are good to know Eyes are spheres This is, of course, the most common sense of all the things, yet when drawing eyes, most of us tend to draw flat stickers for eyes instead of spheres inserted in the head. The eyelids have an origin In many cartoon eyes, the lids tend to often appear out of no where. Yet in reality, they have specific origins from which they pivot to open and close. The average eyes lid origins tend to line up. In cartoon eyes, you can vary the angle these origins have to each other in order to add variety. Ill show you more about this later. Eyelids wrap around the sphere Another thing that can make or break the look of a cartoon eye is how the lids interact with the sphere of the eyes. Unless youre Garfield the cat, you want eyelids to wrap around the eyeball to add dimension to your eyes. Eyelids have thickness Eyelids are not painted on the sphere of the eye, they have depth. They even cast a shadow on the eyes more often than not. Its another way to add depth and dimension to your cartoon eyes. Keeping these four things in mind, lets see how we can best use this info when drawing our cartoon eyes. Dot Eye. Dot eyes are not only the easiest type of eyes to draw, they also happen to be my favorite. I suppose the simplicity is what appeals to me most. By dot eyes, I dont only literally mean eyes that are dots but also longer elliptical shaped eyes. I would even include lines for eyes, either vertical or horizontally drawn Dot eyes can easily be expressive by simply adding lines connected to them, around them or eyebrows above them However, one of the trickiest things to do with them is make them seem like theyre looking in specific directions. You can often get around this by turning the whole head to look in the desired direction. Still, sometimes you dont want to do this. This is when knowledge about how real eyes work comes in handy. Even when drawing dot eyes. Dot eyes can represent pretty much every part of the eyes the whole eye, the irises or the just the pupils. When you want to make dot eyes look in a specific direction, it comes in handy to make them temporarily represent the iris or pupils. By doing so, you can bend the dots in such a way to make them seem to look in a specific direction. Like this It also helps with dot eyes if youre aware of the solidity of the shape of the head. Its best if you place the eyes in such a way that they emphasize the structure, direction and perspective of the head Thats it, thats all I really have to say about dot eyes. Have fun drawing them. Bubble Eyes. Bubble eyes are really one step up from dot eyes. They were the first kind of cartoon eyes that I started using when I was a kid. You can draw them two ways. You can draw them overlapping each other or you can draw them apart from each other. They also dont necessarily need to be perfectly round When you use overlapping bubble eyes they immediately give the viewer the sense that the eyes have volume. They tend to seem spherical. However, they also have a tendency to seem like theyre bulging out of the head. This is not a bad thing, just as long as you want that effect in your cartoon. This is not necessarily the case if you separate the bubble eyes from each other. Its possible with separated bubble eyes to not have them seem like bubbles at all, but rather spherical disks inside the head. Which is fine, if thats what want. Heres somethings to keep in mind When drawing overlapping bubble eyes, have the overlap happen in the correct perspective. The eye closes to us should overlap the eye further from us This may seem like common sense but Ive seen plenty of people, including myself as a kid, get it wrong Also remember that eyelids should have an origin point from which they pivot. The eyelids, ideally should wrap around and reinforce the roundness of the bubble eyes. UNLESS, youre trying to create a flat graphic look to your cartoons on purpose. You should also try to avoid splitting the eye in half with your eyelids origins points. Its best to error favoring a lower origin for the lids. Canada Velcro Flag Patch on this page. Why Well, besides being good design, its much more natural since our own eyes are not evenly split in half by our own eyelids and also favor a lower pivot point Eyelid thickness is often used with these kind of eyes too. Experiment to see whether you want to include the thickness or not. It give the eyes even more dimension Below youll find a turnaround of how a version of these set of eye may look like from different angles. This example is NOT the dogmatic, definitive way these eyes MUST be drawn. Theyre simply a version you can use that you can then modify to suit your whims. For example, the eyes below are very different than the bubble eyes used on a show like. The Simpsons I think that covers it. Play around with the eyes and enjoy. Freddy Moore Eyes. Okay, heres where thing start getting a bit more naturalistic. Freddy Moore has had a big influence in the animation industry. His way of drawing eyes are almost industry standard IF youre going for a Disney or Looney Tunes type look to your cartoons. Freddy Moores eye style has become more naturalistic than it started out being. Its based far more on reality than the previous eye types. This means that knowing how to draw a realistic eye is more helpful when drawing this type of eye. So lets take a look at the two types of Freddy Moore eyes. The Looney Tunes eye and the Disney eye By the way, the examples shown here are by no means the definitive version of these eyes. Theyre just one sample of what can be done based on the framework I will talk about below. Theres infinite design possibilities within the basic framework of this eye construction. Heres the logic and thinking process behind the construction this eye type. Lets start with the slightly simpler of the two, the Looney Tunes eye A. This type of eye simulates a real one much more. Its best to envision the whole eyeball when drawing it. This eyeball will be in the characters cartoon eye socket. In this case, the eye is so exaggerated that the ball would be enormous, so to save space I just made it an egg shape. B. Just like with a real eye, the lids will have an origin. A pivot point for the eyelids to open and close from. Its good to imagine this pivot point on the other side of the ball. Notice it doesnt split the eye in half but favors the bottom of the eye. NOTE Im putting a line down to show where the pivot point is for this step but I dont draw the pivot point at this stage. I usually figure out a pivot point of the eye, after Ive roughed out the eye lids. C. When drawing the upper lid, make sure draw it wrapping around the eye ball.
